Music on the edge

I was listening in the car yesterday to Olivia O’Leary’s excellent Radio 4 programme, Between Ourselves. I’d just like to recommend this episode, no. 2 of Series 5, in which she speaks to two refugee musicians: a Kurd and an Azeri. One had had to escape from Iraq, while the other had been prevented from returning to Iran, because of the work they were each doing in performing and advocating for the music in their own culture and in their mother tongues. It brought home to me yet again how artists are still persecuted for political reasons across the world. I urge you to listen to it.
